OUR STORY

In 2008, the City of Xenia worked with a group of community leaders, business owners, and concerned citizens to develop a Strategic Plan to shape the future of our downtown.

JINGLE BELL RIDE

For the second year in a row, the Jingle Bell Ride will roll out Xenia’s Hometown Christmas festivities in downtown Xenia on Saturday, December 12th.   The bicycle ride will start promptly at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12th from the Xenia Station, proceed 3.1 miles to Old Town Reserve and return for a total 6.2 winter ride course, leaving time for riders to get uptown for Santa and other festivities running from 4-8 p.m. in downtown Xenia.

Prizes will be awarded for the best holiday themed bicycle decorations.  All riders successfully completing the brisk winter ride will receive coupons for free or discounted drinks and food from bicycle-friendly Xenia merchants participating in Hometown Christmas.

The ride is designed for cyclists more than 18 years old unless accompanied by an adult.  Bike helmets are required.  The winter bicycle ride along the Little Miami Scenic Trail is hosted by the Greene County Parks & Trails’ Sentinels.

HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS 2015

We have begun the countdown to our annual Hometown Christmas in Xenia!  This year’s event -- held annually on the 2nd Saturday in December in downtown Xenia --will be Saturday, December 12th from 4:00-8:00 p.m.  The community is invited to share in the old fashioned sparkling magic of downtown at dusk.

Below are some highlights of what you will enjoy that day:

Hometown Christmas Silent Auction will be at The Flower Stop (57 W. Main St) – stop by and see the many gift items and place your bid before 8:00 p.m. the day of the event.

Window Decorating Contest – From Shop Local Saturday on Nov. 28 until the close of Hometown Christmas, everyone is invited to vote on your favorite storefront windows downtown. You can pick up a ballot at participating stores and drop your ballot at Xenia Shoe & Leather.  All the ballots will be placed in a drawing to win prizes.  This contest is brought to you by Downtown Xenia Now, by the efforts of downtown building and business owners who participate for your viewing pleasure, and by a generous donation by Xenia Glass and Lock – 1st prize is $300, 2nd prize is $150, and 3rd prize is $75.  We will also be having our "Guess the Window" contest again this year.  We heard from several of you that you missed this so it is returning again this year.  If you have a downtown business and would like to participate in the window decorating contest, please click HERE.

Mr & Mrs Santa - Once again, Mr & Mrs Santa will be at Toward Independence handing out goodies to all the good girls and boys!

Carriage Rides - It wouldn't be Hometown Christmas without the jingling bells of our horse-drawn carriage rides, sponsored by Collett Propane and Legacy Village.  Tickets are $1 for the open wagon rides located at Dodds Monuments and $3 each or 2/$5 for the closed carriages located at Narrow Path Plumbing/WBZI and the Xenia Library.  To avoid long waits, purchase your ticket and take it to the carriage vendor to reserve your time then go and enjoy the event!

Christmas Music at the Courthouse - There will be music all evening long at the south courthouse lawn located at Main & Detroit.

In addition, we will also have the following:

  • Back to Bethlehem presented by Xenia Grace Chapel at S. Detroit and W. Second St. lot
  • Candyland Bazaar at the Xenia Y (135 E. Church St.)
  • Cookie decorating and hot cider bar at Sweets Boutique (28 E. Second St.)
  • PEACH Home School Craft and bake sale at Narrow Path Plumbing (113 S. Detroit St.)
  • Greene County Historical Society Holiday Open House from 1-5pm (74 W. Church St.)
  • Christams Carol Sing from 7-8pm at Cornerstone Bible Church (N. Detroit and W. Church St). Xenia Christain School Music Director, Bob Colaner will be leading the carol sing and there will also be a performance by Xenia Elementary School Chorus.

Because we are still in the early planning stages, we don't have a complete list of the activities planned yet so watch for more information at www.facebook.com/xeniadowntown about this year's festivities.

Besides all of this, there will be food available at local eateries, open houses, discounts, and many more activities in the downtown that you won’t want to miss!  The 2015 Hometown Christmas will prove to be a fun and spirited event.  If you are interested in being a part of the planning of this year's events, please go to our volunteer page and submit your application to volunteer.  We are grateful for all the volunteers who will help make this year’s event bigger, better, and brighter!  Get involved, sign up for newsletters, and keep up with what’s happening in your hometown at www.xenianow.org and like us at www.facebook.com/xeniadowntown.  For more information, please visit www.xenianow.org or contact Sue Hunt at This email address is being protected from spambots.
